Guwahati : A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale jolted Assam and the rest of north east India at around 6.35 am on Sunday.
The epicentre was located near Kokrajhar at a depth of 10 kilometres on latitude 26.5 degree north and longitude 90.1 degree east, MET officials said.
The quake rattled doors and windows forcing people to rush out of their houses, police said.
Tremors were felt in Bhutan, Bangladesh, Nepal and eastern part of India.
There was no immediate report of any loss of life or damage to property.
In April this year, tremors had been felt at Guwahati and its neighbouring areas in Assam following the devastating tremor in Nepal.
