The Kalki Avtar has launched a nationwide campaign Beti Bachao.Every government in India is trying to show its commitment declaring free education for the girls.We boast to have become an emerging free market digital biometric desh.I am ashamed to note that the patriarchal society has not changed a little bit.Lotus blooming here and there ,everywhere and the Vediac Yug has returned with full volume and polonium 210 branded gender bias afresh.We would not allow dark and black girls anymore while the fairness industry claims miracles of making white.Whiteness is the certificate for the success and wellness of our girls.The slogan rather should be save your daughters and make them white!

I am ashamed that despite of the claims of gender equality and women empowerment ,poor girls have to commit suicide.The girls belonged to poor families with a status hand to mouth.They were persecuted because of their color and they were persecuted for poverty.

I am ashamed that the Chief Minister who created a storm as the Republic Day parade skipped her ambitious scheme Kanyasri and who claims Jungle Mhal smiling, who focused on the tribal districts including the Twin Midnapur,could not change the scenario a litle bit.

I am ashamed that this incident took place in a tribal area situated in Midnapur which is known for an indigenous aborigin society of equal status for women though the tribal society remains inflicted with superstitions like witch hunting along with its totem.

Apart from the brutal witch hunting,I have not heard anything like racial Apartheid in any tribal belt as I myself identify with the tribal roots.

I have known no tribal woman or the woman belonging to OBC and Dalit communities being ashamed of her dark color.

My grand Mother Shanti Devi and her generation always praised those women who bears darkness as in rural Bengal,the fair color was not so liked and our people used to call the fairness as blooming without quality.

Media reports say that Six teenage girls allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. After they were rushed to the hospital in the Jamboni area close to the West Bengal-Jharkhand border, condition of one of the girl's still remains critical.

According to sources, the girls were seen chatting on the banks of the pond. Soon after the dusk, they were found unconscious in fields, upon which they were rushed to Jhargram district hospital by locals.

The names of girls are Namita Nayak, Baby Nayak, Saraswati Nayak, Soma Nayak and Palan Nayak, Puja Nayak all aged between 13 and 19. 5 were declared dead on arrival while one condition of Puja Nayak is stated to be critical.

It is stated that they consumed poison. 3 of them belonged to the same family.

"Six girls were spotted by local villagers chatting on the banks of the village pond this afternoon. Soon after dusk, they were found lying unconscious on the field. Five were declared by the doctors as dead on arrival and the condition of Puja Nayak, who has been admitted to Jhargram district hospital, is stated to be critical," said West Midnapore district Superintendent of Police Bharati Ghosh.

"Preliminary investigations indicate that the girls had consumed poison resulting to their death. Three of them belong to a family. We are probing the incident and our officers have rushed to the village. The nature of poison and other relevant details will be known only after the post-mortem," Ghosh said.

গতকাল সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় পশ্চিমবঙ্গের পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের ঝাড়গ্রামের জামবনীর অরো গ্রামের এ ঘটনায় প্রাণে বেঁচে গেছে অপর কিশোরী। তাকে ঝাড়গ্রামের সরকারি হাসপাতালে ভর্তি করা হয়েছে।

মৃতরা হলো- বেবি নায়েক (২০), নমিতা নায়েক (১৬), সরস্বতী নায়েক (১৫), বুডু নায়েক (১৪) ও পালং নায়েক (২০)। বেঁচে যাওয়া কিশোরীর নাম পূজা নায়েক (১৪)।

একই গ্রামের ওই ৬ কিশোরী একসঙ্গে চাষের জমিতে কাজ করত। তাদের মধ্যে বেশ সখ্য ছিল। তারা প্রায় সব সময় একসঙ্গেই চলাফেলা করত। তবে তাদের এই একসঙ্গে চলাকে মেনে নিতে পারেনি গ্রামের কেউ কেউ। তাদের নামে ছড়ানো হয় অপবাদ। তারা সমকামী বলে অভিযোগ তোলা হয়। এ নিয়ে রাস্তাঘাটেও কটূক্তি করে। এই কটূক্তি সইতে না পেরে গত রোববার তারা কীটনাশক পান করে আত্মহত্যার সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়।

সে অনুযায়ী সোমবার সন্ধ্যায় তারা গ্রামের একটি ফাঁকা মাঠে গিয়ে পরস্পরের হাত ওড়না দিয়ে বেঁধে কীটনাশক পান করে।

কিন্তু পূজার ভাগে কীটনাশক কম পড়ায় সে বেঁচে গিয়ে গ্রামের লোকজনকে জানায়। গ্রামের লোকজন এসে মুমূর্ষু অবস্থায় ৫ কিশোরীকে হাসপাতালে নিয়ে গেলে চিকিৎসক তাদের মৃত ঘোষণা করেন।

ওয়েব ডেস্ক: কী কারণে আত্মহত্যার মতো পথ বেছে নিতে হল জামবনির ৬ কিশোরীকে? প্রাথমিক তদন্তের পর পুলিসের অনুমান বন্ধুত্ব বিচ্ছেদের আশঙ্কা থেকে একসঙ্গে মরে যাওয়ার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছে তারা। কিন্তু কেন বিচ্ছেদের আশঙ্কা? কারণ খুঁজতে গিয়ে আবারও সামনে এল সমাজের চরম অসহিষ্ণুতার ছবি।

জানা গিয়েছে এই ৬ বন্ধুর ঘনিষ্ঠ সম্পর্ক নাকি ভাল চোখে দেখত না গ্রামবাসীরা। বাড়ি থেকে বিয়ে ঠিক হয়েছিল এক কিশোরীর। অপর একজনের বিয়ের কথাও চলছিল। আর সেই কারণেই তারা বিচ্ছেদের আশঙ্কায় ভুগছিল। কিশোরীদের পরিবারও বুঝতে চায়নি বিয়ের থেকে এই বন্ধুত্ব তাদের অনেক প্রিয়, অনেক কাছের। পরিবারের অসহিষ্ণুতা, সমাজের চোখ রাঙানি, সর্বোপরি বন্ধু বিচ্ছেদের যন্ত্রনা, সবকিছুর হাত থেকে মুক্তি পেতেই তারা এই চরম সিদ্ধান্ত নেয় বলে অনুমান।

সোমবার একসঙ্গে বিষ খেয়ে আত্মহত্যার চেষ্টা করে পশ্চিম মেদিনীপুরের জামবনির ওরো গ্রামের এই ৬ কিশোরী। মৃত্যু হয়েছে ৫ জনের। একজন আশঙ্কাজনক অবস্থায় চিকিত্‍সাধীন স্থানীয় এক হাসপাতালে। মৃত কিশোরীদের দেহ উদ্ধার হয়েছে গ্রামের একটি মাঠ থেকে। গ্রামবাসীদের কথায় বারবার উঠে এসেছে ৬ কিশোরীর 'অস্বাভাবিক ঘনিষ্ঠতা'র কথা। কিন্তু, প্রকৃত দায়ী কে?
